Noel E. Bordador, originally from the Philippines, considers himself a true New Yorker since he has been living in New York for the last twenty two years. His sponsoring parish for ordination is the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Manhattan. He is currently working on his Master of Sacred Theology (STM) degree at the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York City, where he also obtained a Diploma in Anglican Studies last year. Prior to coming to General, Noel was a social worker after he graduated with a Master of Social Work degree from Hunter College School of Social Work. His social work experience includes working with persons with psychiatric disabilities, the homeless, and persons living with (and affected with) HIV or AIDS. Before social work, Noel was enrolled at the Union Theological Seminary, New York, where he obtained his Master of Divinity degree in 1990. He is currently doing his parish field placement at St. Ann's Church, South Bronx, and an internship as a chaplain (through the HealthCare Chaplaincy, Inc.) at Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan. By the time you are reading this, my father has come and gone for a visit. I haven’t seen him in almost a couple of years, and it was nice for him to visit. My father and I have been apart for more than half of my life, and when we do see each other, we both feel that due to time and distance, we have gone our separate ways. Because of this, we are so different from each other, and we seem to have different expectations of each other. What I turned out to be is probably what he did not expect. He wanted me to be a doctor, to have care and cure of physical bodies, and I turned out to be more interested in care and cure of souls. He wanted me to get married and have lots of children so he could have lots of grandchildren, but God did not will that marriage be my vocation. On the other hand, I also probably expected him to be a different kind of father than he was. He is a loving father, a good provider and protector of the family, but he also had many human foibles that perhaps irritated me, or annoyed me or made me ashamed. Because of these different expectations, for many years, we tried to change each other, to fashion each other into the kind of person we wanted each other to be. It was only within the last few years that we began to appreciate each other as the person we have come to be. For me, whatever quirks and imperfections my father had, I have come to realize and appreciate that he is the person that God called to be my father. This is the man. No one else. And it is this man, Pepe, as people fondly call him, in both his best and worst, who was called by God to give life to me, and to have a hand in raising me in the catholic Christian faith.

Petitioners Jose D. Bordador and Lydia E. Bordador were engaged in the business of purchase and sale of jewelry and respondent Brigida D. Luz, also known as Aida D. Luz, was their regular customer. On several occasions during the period from April 27, 1987 to September 4, 1987, respondent Narciso Deganos, the brother of Brigida D. Luz, received several pieces of gold and jewelry from petitioners amounting to P382,816.00. These items and their prices were indicated in seventeen receipts covering the same. Eleven of the receipts stated that they were received for a certain Evelyn Aquino, a niece of Deganos, and the remaining six indicated that they were received for Brigida D. Luz.
Deganos was supposed to sell the items at a profit and thereafter remit the proceeds and return the unsold items to petitioners. Deganos remitted only the sum of P53,207.00. He neither paid the balance of the sales proceeds, nor did he return any unsold item to petitioners. By January 1990, the total of his unpaid account to petitioners, including interest, reached the sum of P725,463.98. Let me begin with a personal story. Earlier this year, I visited my family who live across the globe. One of the reasons for my visit has something to do with my youngest sixteen-year old sister. For a long time, my father has been almost begging me to come and help him look for my runaway sister. A combination of adolescent rebellion, bad company, drugs, among other things, were the cause of this. Yes, it happens to a good Christian family, too. My father and I found her living in her squalor. The feeling that my father and I had over this reunion was and is indescribable, to say the least.

Reputedly one of the oldest churches in the Philippines built in 1575 using forced labor. Antique relief statues of saints, which were brought by the Spaniards, are preserved in this church. Its belfry houses four small bells and one big bell – which are probably the oldest in the country. The rooftop of the church offers an obstructed but nonetheless, breathtaking view of Mt. Bolinao Mayor Alfonso Celeste said the local government will file damage suit against Indonesian owners of the barge APOL 3003. The University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UPMSI) stated that the environmental damage was P 54.9 million ($1 =- P 40). The barge towed by a tug boat from Indonesia to the power plant in Sual, Pangasinan on November 27 when Typhoon “Mina” winds destroyed its anchor and rope, then hurled to Ilog Malino reef, spilling 95% of its coal cargo. The hard coal spill spread to 330,000 square metres of coral and sea grass areas.

The almost unbearable stench that greeted boat men sailing toward the Kakiputan Channel here served as a grim warning of what lay ahead. Since last weekend, residents have been witnessing thousands of bangus (milkfish) and other marine life floating dead in the murky water.
It’s 2002 once again for this town and neighboring Anda, which now face a new fish kill disaster that imperils the local economy. 2002 was the year when the bangus industry was wiped out and losses were estimated to have reached P400 million. BOLINAO – This premier tourism town turned into a “ghost town” after the devastation wrought by typhoon Emong which felled electrical power and communication lines and plunging the town into darkness.
Emong toppled down trees, destroyed 90 percent of houses, blew away roofs of buildings including the church’s and resorts’, and sank all fish cages.

Hypocrisy is the state of pretending to have beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually have. Hypocrisy involves the deception of others and is thus a kind of lie. Hypocrisy is not simply failing to practice those virtues that one preaches. Samuel Johnson made this point when he wrote about the misuse of the charge of "hypocrisy" in Rambler No. 14:

Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. Some psychologists such as John B. Watson, Robert Plutchik, and Paul Ekman have suggested that fear belongs to a small set of basic or innate emotions.
